Professor Olivette Otele - featuredThe Inaugural Beacon Conversation

Professor Olivette Otele, historian and Distinguished Research Professor of the Legacies and Memory of Slavery at SOAS will speak on “Universities and Decolonial Reckonings” in the inaugural Beacon Conversation on Wednesday, 23 October 2024 at University College, Oxford. The conversation will take place in the 10 Merton Street Lecture Theatre, 5.15-6.15pm.

The conversation will be moderated by Univ Beacon Junior Research Fellows, Dr Lyn Kouadio and Dr Mobeen Hussein.

Professor Olivette Otele is a world-renowned historian, author of African Europeans: An Untold History (2020) and was the first Black woman to be appointed to a professorial chair in History in the UK. She joined SOAS as a Distinguished Research Professor of the Legacies and Memory of Slavery within the Faculty of Law in 2022.
