Univ welcomes Baroness Valerie Amos
1 September 2020 – Baroness Valerie Amos, CH, PC, takes up office as Master of University College Oxford
We are delighted to welcome Baroness Valerie Amos, as she begins her role as Master of the College. Baroness Amos takes up her post following the recent retirement of Sir Ivor Crewe, who was Master of the College for the previous 12 years.
Baroness Amos joins us from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, where she was Director from 2015 to 2020. She brings a wealth of experience from that role and from the many others that she has held, including Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator for the United Nations, Cabinet Minister during Tony Blair’s second and third terms of office, and Leader of the House of Lords.
While Baroness Amos joins us during a uniquely challenging period, the College looks forward with excitement to the fullest realisation of its values of academic excellence, opportunity and inclusiveness under her leadership.
Peter Jezzard, Vice-Master
