Univ re-cycles
Univ’s annual “bike cull” is designed to help clear the substantial number of bikes that become abandoned across both Main site and Stavs throughout the year. Bikes that are still required by their owners can be labelled as “keep”, whilst the rest are rounded up.
In addition to helping to clear up College, there is an important sustainability aspect to the cull. Unclaimed bikes can be claimed by new owners (in exchange for a small, optional, donation to a charity of the JCR / MCR choosing) and those that don’t find new homes within College are donated to Recycle Your Cycle, who refurbish them and sell them on, with profits going to charities across the UK. Since Recycle Your Cycle was established in 2015, they have raised more than £160,000.
In 2021 100 bikes were cleared from Univ sites, 63 were rehomed and 37 donated to Recycle Your Cycle.
Details of the 2022 “bike cull” will be announced on the News and Features page of our website and across Facebook and Twitter.
Have your say on sustainability
