Univ’s Old Members were invited to attend an evening drinks event in Edinburgh on 8 September. 

The event offered guests the opportunity to meet other Old Members, stay connected and hear news from the College. The evening was hosted by Felice Nassar, Fellow and Director of Development, Communications and Alumni Relations. Andrew Butler KC (1982, Classics) has kindly provided a report of the event.

On Monday 8 September 2025, on a sunlit early autumnal evening, an Edinburgh gathering of Univ alumni took place at Bar Prince in the Balmoral Hotel, Princes Street. There were 21 attendees, from a wide range of professional backgrounds, with 49 years between the oldest and the most recent date of matriculation. Some were Edinburgh born and raised – others had moved to the city later in life, for personal or professional reasons, or a combination of the two. All were united in the warmth of their recollection of their years at Univ.

As the evening unfolded, new acquaintances were made and old acquaintances renewed – recognition of old friends was in some cases not immediate! But much fun was had swapping reminiscences of College life and recalling  the many great personalities who had shaped those formative years.  Those who attended would doubtless join me in expressing their appreciation to the College’s Development Director Felice Nassar, who had made the journey north and who organised the event meticulously.
