Sir Ivor Crewe, Honorary Fellow and former Master of University College, Oxford (2008-2020), has been appointed President and Chair of Trustees for Coram, one of the UK’s oldest children’s charities. Coram traces its origins back to 1739 when it was founded as the Foundling Hospital, and today supports children and carers across the country.

A distinguished political scientist and expert in UK voting behaviour, Sir Ivor previously served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Essex and founded the Institute for Economic and Social Research. Knighted in 2006, he brings a wealth of academic and leadership experience to his new role, succeeding Sir David Bell, who retired in June.

Sir Ivor expressed his excitement about his appointment, stating, “I am proud to support Coram’s bold vision for the Coram Institute for Children, which will drive forward research, policy, and practice to make a bigger difference for the next generation.”

Carol Homden, Coram’s Chief Executive, highlighted the importance of Sir Ivor’s leadership, particularly in ensuring equal opportunities for children of all backgrounds. She looks forward to working with him to enhance Coram’s impact in the coming decade.
