Mathematics of Machine Learning
On 28 June-2 July, Dr Patrick Rebeschini, Tutorial Fellow in Statistics and Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics, taught an online summer school titled “Mathematics of Machine Learning” hosted by the Alan Turing Institute and partially supported by Google.
The one-week school combined elements of online teaching with dive-in active sessions covering theoretical and numerical exercises in Python, as well as research seminars aimed at exposing students to recent trends in the field.
Prior to joining Oxford, Patrick was at Yale University where he was Associate Research Scientist in the Electrical Engineering Department, a Lecturer in the Computer Science Department, and a Postdoctoral Associate at the Yale Institute for Network Science. He holds a PhD in Operations Research and Financial Engineering from Princeton University.
In 2019, Dr Rebeschini was awarded a 2019 MPLS Teaching Award for the design, development and teaching of a new course titled “Algorithmic Foundations of Learning” (AFoL), presenting recent trends in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in a unifying framework.
