Iceland ambassador
Dr Bryony Mathew (1996, Experimental Psychology) was appointed as the next British Ambassador to Iceland recently. She is the first women to hold this position. Dr Mathew will take up her appointment during August 2021.
After studying Experimental Psychology at Univ, Dr Mathew did a Master’s in Biological Anthropology at Durham and a PhD in Neuroscience at UCL. She joined Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service in 2005 and has served in London, Bangalore, and Beijing. This year Dr Mathew has been Deputy Director of Operations in the Foreign Office COVID-19 Taskforce.
Dr Mathew has also written two children’s books, demonstrating the breadth of careers available. Qubits and Quiver Trees introduces children to 30 new careers, from polar scientist to cobot matcher. Blue Broccoli and Nanobots depicts 32 fictional female role models who are all pursuing exciting careers in STEM.
