Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition
Graduate OMT Travel grant report – Gabija Navickaite (2019, norganic Chemistry for Future Manufacturing)
In June, I had a chance to attend the Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (CSC 2023) in Vancouver, Canada. The conference covered a broad range of topics in Chemistry offering an opportunity to learn about recent progress in my field and broaden my knowledge outside the scope of my research. I particularly enjoyed the opening plenary session delivered by 2022 Nobel Prize winner Prof. Bertozzi, who discussed her truly inspirational research in cancer treatment as well as the inclusion and diversity in science.
During 5 days in the CSC, I made new connections in my field, reunited with colleagues from my undergraduate studies and had insightful conversations about my future career options. Furthermore, the CSC allowed me to learn more about Chemistry industry, including the current start-up landscape. After discussing my work with industrial chemists at the poster session, I gained a fresh perspective to problems I faced when developing new materials.
In my free time, I had an opportunity to explore Vancouver together with some old and new Canadian friends. Vancouver surprised me by beautiful contemporary architecture, large green spaces and a variety of delicious international cuisines. Completing a steep hike to Grouse Mountain, which offered sights of British Columbia’s South Coast was one of the highlights.
I am grateful for the contribution from Univ which made this trip possible.
