Aspire – Team Oxford
Team Oxford is a movement of like-minded people, organisations and businesses working together in a joint commitment to achieve a more connected Oxford – and Aspire are proud to be a partner!
What will Team Oxford do?
Team Oxford endeavors to increase social action across the city. Oxford is brimming with energy from individuals and groups wishing to make a difference in their communities; the project is ready to help turn this into meaningful action with the goal to make a big impact for charities and community groups.
How will Team Oxford do this?
There will be a number of social action events throughout this year to offer bitesize volunteering opportunities for people looking to try something new. The first of these ran before Christmas at Aspire’s “Place At The Table” event, bringing together volunteers for a Christmas meal held for people experiencing homelessness. Keep an eye on Team Oxford’s social media channels for announcements of future events!
Team Oxford will also be running free workshops for businesses and non-profit organisations throughout the year. Workshops for businesses will focus on how employers can step up and volunteer with more meaning and purpose, while sessions run for non-profit organisations will focus on innovating volunteer programmes and fully utilising digital platforms. It’s all about thinking outside the box!
Team Oxford has been lucky enough to receive grant funding lasting four years from The National Lottery Community Fund, which will enable the programme to maintain momentum, and see social action that lasts.
Through this funding, Team Oxford is able to introduce new volunteering events, campaigns and infrastructure support for the charities and public services that are most in need, with the opportunity to collaborate to improve access to impactful volunteering opportunities throughout Oxford.
Team Oxford will focus on tackling three of Oxford’s big issues, which will shape events over the coming year:
• Homelessness
• Improving physical and mental health
• Taking on loneliness and isolation in communities
Who’s involved?
Aspire are thrilled to be working in partnership with fantastic agencies including Oxfordshire Community and Voluntary Action (OCVA), Oxford City Council, Oxford Health, OxFed, Oxford Brookes University and Oxford Computer Consultants.
“This is a great opportunity to boost volunteering in the city by bringing together people, communities and organisations for the collective goal of a happier and healthier city. Oxford is a vibrant place with a huge amount of energy and drive to do more good; I can’t wait to see Team Oxford channelling this towards tackling important issues including tackling homelessness, improving mental and physical health, reducing loneliness and connecting communities.”
