A new book by Univ Fellow Professor Daniel Freeman (Professor of Clinical Psychology and Medical Research Council Senior Clinical Fellow) is causing quite a stir. Professor Freeman was on BBC breakfast and Radio Five Live breakfast on 29th May to discuss The Stressed Sex: Uncovering the Truth about Men, Women and Mental Health. He was interviewed on the same topic on Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio 4 on 22nd May and has been quoted in The Guardian, The Telegraph on 13 and 24 May and The Daily Mail.
Professor Freeman gave a fascinating presentation to the Asia Society on “The Stressed Sex” at the Univ Alumni Drinks Reception, Lecture and Dinner in Hong Kong in March. View the presentation here.
His book The Stressed Sex: Uncovering the Truth About Men, Women, and Mental Health, written with Jason Freeman (writer and editor specialising in popular psychology and self-help) sets out to answer a simple, but crucial, question: are rates of psychological disorder different for men and women? To date, this important issue has been largely ignored in all the debates raging about gender differences. Daniel Freeman and Jason Freeman present a ground-breaking combination of epidemiological analysis and evidence-based science to get to the bottom of what’s really going on.
