Perplexing Problems published
Professor Tom Povey, Univ Tutorial Fellow and Praelector in Engineering, recently published Professor Povey’s Perplexing Problems, a new book containing 109 of his favourite physics and maths problems.
Professor Povey’s Perplexing Problems: Pre University Puzzles with Solutions (Oneworld Publications, 2015) contains 109 of Professor Povey’s favourite physics and maths problems, with content that enables readers to think creatively about mathematical solutions, in addition to bridging the gap between pre-university and university level maths and physics.
Professor Povey’s research is predominantly concerned with turbomachines, particularly the turbine stages of large civil turbofan (jet) engines. His current research includes studies of unsteady interactions in gas turbines and turbine aero-thermal interactions. He also lectures on Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics, subjects he continues to teach in tutorials at Univ.
