OM takes oath in US

Neil Gorsuch (1992, DPhil Law)Univ OM Neil Gorsuch (1992, DPhil Law) has been sworn in as the new Supreme Court justice in America.

The seat was left vacant when Justice Antonin Scalia died in February 2016 – the longest period a seat has remained unfilled on the Supreme Court since the American Civil War – with Gorsuch, a former appeals court judge from Colorado, confirmed as President Trump’s nominee earlier this year.

Gorsuch served for over a decade as a federal judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, building a nationally respected and distinguished judicial record and reputation.

After being sworn in by Justice Anthony Kennedy, Gorsuch commented: “I am humbled by the trust placed in me today. I will never forget that to whom much is given, much will be expected; and I promise you to do all my powers permit to be a faithful servant of the constitution and laws of this great nation.”
