Professor Rosalind Rickaby, Professorial Fellow and Chair and Professor of Geology, has been named the recipient of the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG) 2023 Science Innovation Award.

The EAG Science Innovation Award recognizes scientists who have recently made a particularly important and innovative breakthrough in geochemistry. The geochemical research must be highly original and contribute in a significant fashion to our understanding of the natural behavior of the Earth or planets.

Professor Rickaby is a marine biogeochemist and currently the Chair of Geology here at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford. She has been a Professor of Biogeochemistry since 2010. She received her PhD with Harry Elderfield from Cambridge University in 1995 and studied at Harvard for her post-doc with Dan Schrag. Ros has won 20 years of continuous ERC funding and has been recognised by prestigious medals from the European Geosciences and American Geophysical Union, and Geological Society of London. She held a Wolfson Research Merit Award from the Royal Society and last year, was appointed FRS.

Professor Rickaby gave the 2023 Science Innovation Award Lecture, “Peaking at the past controls on the production of pelagic carbonate”, at the Goldschmidt 2023 Conference. You can watch the lecture here.

Their lecture will take place on Saturday 23 September at 4-5pm in 10 Merton Street Lecture Theatre, University College.
