"For someone in the very early stages of their career this talk was both thought-provoking and inspiring, and it was exciting to learn from one of the key leaders of the post-crisis world."

Hannah Roberts (2011, PPE)

"It was a wonderful evening at the Barbican, mixing with old friends and new, sharing our tastes in classical music over a tasty glass of wine! Another successful Young Univ event."

Dr Eoin Hyde (2008, Computer Science)

"We downed excellent Pimm's in the sunshine, while current Univ men and women carried their boats in and out, politely calling out to warn us not to be brained by swinging bows... We felt welcome and peculiarly at home."
Dr
Seán Haldane (1961, English)

The Martlet Ensemble

The Martlet Ensemble made their final appearance of the academic year on 11th June, with a concert in Univ Chapel and music by Samuel Barber, Frank Bridge and Gerald Finzi. The players were joined by two of our current students; Frederick Waxman (2014, Philosophy & Psychology) as the oboe soloist in Finzi's Interlude for strings and oboe, and Isla Ratcliff (2014, Music) as second violin in the wonderful Bridge Idylls. Director of Music Giles Underwood sang Barber's Dover Beach to round off the concert and the year. Please click here to read a review kindly provided by John Dewey.

Summer Eights

Members of the 1249 Society joined us for a private drinks reception at Univ Boat House, followed by a barbecue, at this year's Summer Eights on Saturday 28th May. All Univ Old Members, rowers and spectators, and their guests joined us later on for the Master's Reception at Summer Eights, to cheer on the Univ crews and to enjoy a pop-up cafe in the sunshine. To view photographs and report kindly provided by Catriona Bourne (2011, Music), please click here.

Membership of the 1249 Society is open to all members of the College. To find out more about membership levels and benefits, please click here.

2016 was definitely one of the most successful years for Univ, finishing as the College with the second to most bumps (out of 36 colleges!) and with no crew getting bumped over the four days. Congratulations to all the rowers, coxes and coaches on this impressive achievement.
