USPGA (Golf) Spring Meeting

Richard Burridge (1973) welcomed Univ Golfers to Hendon Golf Club on 16th May 2016. The Cup was won by Colin Bough (1969) with a very decent score of 34, with Mike Shilling (1975) runner up on 33, and Tim Low (1976) in third place with 32 points. Peter Fisk (1974) won nearest-the-pin on the 9th, with Tim Low getting the straightest drive on the 18th – although Robin Butler (1957) got so close to the line with his second shot that he was given a prize as well!

 

2016 Annual William of Durham Club Luncheon

We welcomed members of the William of Durham Club to the College on Saturday 7th May 2016 for a special recognition day. The programme for the day included Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night: settings of the songs from Twelfth Night with a highly illuminating and entertaining commentary by Professor Tiffany Stern, Beaverbrook and Bouverie Tutorial Fellow in English, organised jointly with Giles Underwood, Univ Director of Music in the Hall, Univ in the Age of Shakespeare: the College, its Members, and their Books a fascinating lecture by Dr Robin Darwall-Smith, College Archivist in the Chapel, drinks in the Fellows' Garden followed by luncheon in Hall, a stirring recital by the Oxford Commas a capella group in the Chapel and a rousing preview performance of this year's Garden Play 'The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol by the Univ Players, also in the Chapel. 2016 North America Reunion: San Francisco Drinks & Light Lunch

Edward Hieatt (1995, Maths), Senior Vice President of Pivotal, in Oakland, CA, kindly hosted drinks and a light lunch for Univ Old Members at his home on Saturday 16th April, as part of the North American reunion. The Master and William Roth, Director of Development and Fellow, enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with our alumni in California.

2016 North America Alumni Weekend: Washington D.C. Dinner

Univ Old Members and their guests joined us for a Drinks Reception and Dinner on Saturday 9th April at the University Club in Washington, as part of the 2016 Alumni Weekend in North America. The Master gave an update on College news and Dr Tim Evans (1984, Plant Sciences), Senior Director at the World Bank Group, was guest speaker. 2004-2006 Gaudy

We We welcomed back over 100 matriculants from 2004 to 2006 on 2nd and 3rd April 2016 for their first Gaudy. The programme included tea in the Master's Lodgings, College tours with William Roth, Director of Development and Fellow, an exhibition of Univ's Hidden Collections – including 'The Chronicles of England' one of Univ’s 34 incunables (books printed in the 15th Century) printed in Antwerp in 1493, only nine of which are known to exist worldwide – a 'scratch choir' in the Chapel, a formal dinner in Hall, overnight stay in a College room, and breakfast and Chapel service the next morning. Dutch Masters Exhibition: Curator's Tour and Talk

Major Benefactors of the College were invited to attend a private drinks reception followed by a curator’s tour of the Dutch Masters exhibition at the Queen's Gallery on 12th February, courtesy of Desmond Shawe-Taylor, LVO (1974, English), Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures. The exhibition 'Masters of the Everyday: Dutch Masters in the Age of Vermeer' presents 27 masterpieces from the Royal Collection. Please click here to view photographs from the event.

 

Univ Society London Dinner

Over 120 Univ Old Members, current students and their guests gathered for the 12th Annual Univ Society London Dinner on 4th February 2016, which this year took place at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall. Univ Old Member David Cooke (1974, History), Director of the BBFC, delivered the after dinner speech: 'What the Censor saw: from Univ to The British Board of Film Classification'. 1249 Society Drinks Reception

All members of the 1249 Society were invited to attend a private drinks reception hosted by the Master of Univ, Sir Ivor Crewe, prior to the London Dinner on 4th February 2016. Guests were joined by Harry Pasek (2014, US History MSt) and Catherine Shafto (2013, English) who gave a brief insight into their studies at Univ, highlighting some of the areas where 1249 Society support is making a difference.
