Diary of Howell Justin Evans (1903-92)

Howell Justin Evans, usually known as Justin Evans, was at University College between 1926 and 1930.

While there, he kept an extensive diary. In the late 1970s, he produced a typed version of it, and provided the College with a copy, which is now in the archives. In 1980, he also provided an index.
Evan's son Gareth was a philosophy Fellow of the College, and his biographical notes on his son, who died in 1980, may be found at UC:P8.

Catalogued in April 1994.

Typescript edition of Justin Evans' diaries for 1926-1930, with introduction and postscript, titled One Man's Oxford: A Journal of the 'Twenties. The diaries give a detailed account of his life at Oxford, with especial interest on his links with Frank Buchman's "Oxford Group". The diary comes with an extensive index of names and subjects, and is probably the fullest single account of undergraduate life for this period to be found in the College's archives.
