UC:P42/N/1                            27 Mar 1848
Circular from the newly-formed Oxford Tradesmen's Association, with a list of the many firms who had joined it, which sets out its aims.
The Association was created to prevent undergraduates falling into debt both through their own irresponsibility and through unscrupulous touting for custom from tradespeople (described in the circular as "solicitation"). Members of the Association agree to try to prevent this by forbidding "solicitation" amongst its members, and by sending undergraduates regular bills at least twice a year.
